What is Express Courier Services?
Express delivery, which is also called expedited delivery, is the fastest way to send something. It means that your goods will leave the warehouse or pick-up site as soon as possible and take the fastest courier route to get to you.
If your express delivery is going from Hong Kong to a place outside of Hong Kong, which is usually done by plane, it will cost more to get there so quickly.
FedEx, DHL, Hong Kong Post, and UPS are all examples of Express services that use courier networks that deliver packages across the country and around the world. The cost of express shipping depends on how quickly the goods need to be sent, where the goods come from and where they’re going, how heavy and big the package is, and if there are any special handling or other fees that go with it.
Advantages of Express Courier Services from Hong Kong
It can be hard to decide between an express courier from Hong Kong and another shipping method. Each service has its own uses. But you need to think about more than just the service. You can choose the right delivery service if you think about how important and urgent your items are. A business that sends out a lot of important and urgent packages will want to get the best price for speed and safety. Standard mail delivery may work for some customers, but a same-day courier is often the best choice for businesses because of its unique benefits.
The best thing about express courier delivery from Hong Kong is how quickly it can be done. Your packages will always arrive on time where they need to be. Other ways of shipping, like air freight or sea freight, can take a lot of business days. This works well for some things, but not for others. Busy times and strikes can also slow things down. On the other hand, if you use an express service like the ones offered by DHL, FedEx, UPS, and Hong Kong Post, you can set up same-day deliveries across the country to meet tight deadlines.
Why would you ship from Hong Kong by Express Courier Services?
If you want to ship a package from Hong Kong to any other country in the world by sea, you should first ask yourself why. Some people think air freight is better than sea freight. But it depends on your situation. Both have their own pros and cons, so it can be hard to figure out which one is best for your business.
As a way to ship from Hong Kong, Express Courier Services delivery lets customers get their packages as quickly as possible. All people value their time very much, and they want their newly bought or shipped item to arrive as soon as possible. Usually, express delivery means Companies like FedEx, UPS, and DHL send the packages the same day or within 24 hours. When sending a package or courier internationally, most of the time it is done by air.
If you want to send a package from Hong Kong to your country, the most important thing that the companies care about is safety. The express delivery system has been changed so that data is now stored automatically and in a very well-organized way. This makes it almost impossible for mistakes to happen when customers buy things from online stores. Consumers buy thousands of products every day, but it’s rare, and almost never heard, that the products can’t be safely reached.
For shipping from Hong Kong, we’ll tell our customers to use Express Courier Services for small packages.
Skip Express offers VIP delivery services for items that are expensive and need special care while being shipped. VIP delivery service is given to the customer.
Have you ever been worried because you didn’t know when the driver would come to pick up a package? By arranging regular routes, a local courier service lets you choose when to pick up and deliver packages.
This is great for businesses that deliver to the same places over and over again at the same time. You won’t have to pace the floor or look out the window for the FedEx or UPS Inc. truck or worry about whether a package got to your customer on time. Many couriers can even set up schedules that include service at night, on weekends, and on holidays.
At DDPHK, we can set up a time for your package to arrive in any country. If Scheduled Deliveries are important to you, contact us if you need shipping service from Hong Kong to your country.
Courier services from Hong Kong may be a little more expensive than other shipping services from Hong Kong, but they are more efficient and cheaper for businesses.
For a small to medium-sized business, it can be a nightmare to set up a fleet of trucks, train the staff, and pay the administrative costs of managing logistics. Courier services offer a platform with the best rates, which makes the whole process easier.
Are you sick of the huge prices that big delivery services charge? A cheaper alternative is to use a courier service. Smaller businesses can often deliver your goods for less money because they have lower operating costs. You’ll also get more options for pricing if you work with a local company that understands your needs. If a local courier is reliable, you won’t lose business because of bad delivery service.
Express Courier Services VS Air freight
Most of us know about Express Courier Services as a way to ship things. Express Courier Services includes services like UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc. that people know and use. These companies provide door-to-door service.
When you ask your supplier in Hong Kong to send you something via UPS, it usually arrives a few days later with an invoice for brokerage and duties, unless you asked your supplier to declare that $2,000 PO as having “no commercial value,” which is a different post.
We said in the beginning that air courier is expensive, and shipping from Hong Kong makes it even more so. Air freight, on the other hand, is a way to ship things by air that costs a tiny fraction of what air courier does (air freight is also referred to as air cargo).
Given that air freight might cost more, a good rule of thumb to follow when deciding between Express Courier Services and air freight is to look at the size of the shipment. If you need a small package to arrive quickly, it makes sense to use an Express Courier Service. Air freight is the most cost-effective way to ship large packages or bulk goods that weigh tens or hundreds of kilograms. If you’re sending something by Express Courier Services or air freight, you should think about which method fits your needs best and how much it will cost. Even though each has pros and cons, it will come down to how convenient it is and how much you are willing to pay.
Before we talk about when to use Express Courier Services and when to use Air Freight, let’s look at the differences between the two:
Express Courier Services
- Is door-to-door service
- No additional “haulage” fees to get the item to your door
- Can use the courier’s
- inexpensive customs broker normally
- Few surprise fees
- Expensive freight costs
Air Freight/Air Cargo
- Inexpensive freight costs (often less than 50%+ of Express Courier Services)
- Is airport-to-airport service
- Additional “haulage” fees to get your products from the airport to your door
- You need a separate customs broker
- Lots of Surprise Fees
Many people don’t even know about Air Freight. And the truth is that most of my air shipments are still done through Express Courier Services and the usual suspects like UPS and DHL. But Air Freight has saved my life more than once.
There was a time when we needed to get the equivalent of a small room’s worth of products from Hong Kong in a couple of weeks for a trade show. Due to the need for speed, sea freight wasn’t an option, and all of the Express Courier Services charged thousands of dollars. We paid less than $2,000 for the Air Freight service.

How is Courier volumetric weight calculated?
If you want to ship a package from Hong Kong using the DDPHK express service, you need to think about how to calculate volume weight and chargable weight. The shipping rate depends in part on how much space your package takes up. This is what we call the volume weight of your package. You can figure out the volume weight by dividing the length, width, and height of your shipment by a volume factor. The factor depends on the service we use to send your package and the network we use. Our booking system or your personal rate guide will show you the volume factor that applies. After figuring out the volume weight, the real weight is compared to it to see which is bigger. The bigger weight is used to figure out how much your shipping will cost.
We use the following formula to figure out the volumetric weight of your package: Volumetric weight = Length (cm) x Width (cm) x Height (cm) / Volume factor. Our online booking system or your personal rate guide will tell you the volume factor that applies.
See below for an example calculation of volume weight with a volume factor of 5000:
Lenght: | 50 cm |
Width: | 40 cm |
Height: | 30 cm |
Factor: | 5000 |
50*40*30/5000= | 12kg |
You multiply the lenght by the height and the width and divide the total by the volume factor (in this case 5000) to determine the volumetric weight.
How can you reduce the volumetric weight?
Want to save money on shipping from Hong Kong?
It’s our solution. There are some things that can be done to reduce the amount of space a package takes up. For example, you can use a vacuum machine or industrial solutions for eCommerce businesses to remove air from your items.
This can help with things like pillows, mattresses, and food that take up a lot of space.
Using the right kind of packaging for your goods will also save you money on shipping. When you ship clothes in a box instead of a bag or envelope, you are paying to ship by air.
The same rule holds true for shipping furniture and other things that can be sent already put together. If you choose the right way to package these items, you will be able to ship them for less money. But you should also think about this when making your products, since customers will have to put these pieces together on their own.

Document needed for Express Courier Services from Hong Kong
There are many different kinds of shipping documents you need to send something from Hong Kong. You have to know what you need before you can order freight. Find out what papers you need for your shipment by reading on.
When you ship internationally, you can reach new markets and grow your business in exciting ways. But you need to know the rules and regulations of exporting and importing, and the most important thing is that you need the right shipping documents.
International trade depends on documents that meet the rules and requirements of both the country of origin and the country of destination. It’s important to have a lot of information ready about your shipment, your business, and why you’re shipping. If you need to, you will also have to get the right licenses for your products.
Proforma invoice
For international shipping with DDPHK, you need a document called a proforma invoice. After you finish the booking process and order the shipping service, you’ll get the proforma invoice. Then you’ll have to fill in the necessary information, print the proforma, and give it to the courier. This invoice can be used as part of the paperwork for clearing customs, and the customs fees will be based on this document. Keep in mind that the information on the proforma and the label should be the same.
The proforma invoice has all the important details about your shipment. In particular, it has details about:
- The detailed items’ description (do not write just “shirts”, but instead, cotton shirts size M),
- Export type (permanent, repair-return, temporary),
- The items’ value (what is the value of the item, excluding VAT),
- Quantity of all items,
- The total weight of the shipment,
- The items’ country of origin (where was the item produced),
- The reason for export (gift, commercial purposes, samples, repair),
- Harmonised System (HS) codes to classify the product.
Transport insurance or Insurance certificate
Most of the time, the sender will sign a shipping insurance contract with the shipping company or with a specialized company. This type of insurance document for transportation spells out the risks that are covered during the transit.
The type of coverage for the goods is listed on the transport insurance certificate.
Certificate of Origin
As a retailer, you need to show a certificate of origin, which is usually given out by the chamber of commerce. This type of shipping document shows that a certain product was bought, made, or processed in a certain country. In some cases, the customs officials may ask for the certificate of origin. Some countries may have additional or different certifications that are specific to that country, so it’s important to check with those countries.
Packing list
The packing list is an important part of the shipping paperwork needed for transport. It has all the information about the international transaction. Most of the time, this shipping document is not used for customs. Instead, it is used to help make the BoL. It has information like the name and address of the sender and receiver, what is in each container, the size and weight of each container, the number of containers, specific marks and numbers, and any other necessary information.
Master Bill of Lading
When the container with multiple shipments from Hong Kong is loaded onto a ship, the shipping company gives the freight forwarder a master bill of lading, also called a carrier B/L. It doesn’t matter to the shipper or recipient of a less-than-container-load shipment because they would use the house bill of lading, which is specific to their shipment.
It is up to the freight forwarder to choose the shipping line and the starting and ending ports. This doesn’t really matter to the shipper and receiver of a less-than-container-load shipment, since the shipment will always go through a warehouse at both the origin and the destination.
Customs declaration
The customs declaration form is similar to the commercial invoice in that it helps the government figure out the customs duties and taxes that apply to the shipment. For international shipping, you need a document called a “customs declaration.”
How to save on Express Courier Services from Hong Kong
We all want to save money on courier costs, no matter who we are, how many packages we send from Hong Kong, or where we send them.
Shipping costs can have a big effect on a small business’s profit margins and are often one of the biggest (and most frustrating) costs. So, it should be a top priority to keep those courier costs in check.
Make your package as small as you can.
Most couriers will charge you based on how big your package is, so to save money, try to make your package as small as you can.
Use packaging that is light.
Weight will also be a factor, so try to keep your package as light as possible by using lightweight packaging materials like bubble wrap and packing peanuts to keep your package in place. Also, it’s better to package your item in a cardboard box rather than a plastic one. Not only will cardboard be less expensive because it will be lighter, but it will also be stronger than plastic, which tends to break when it’s put under pressure.
Claim VAT back
If you run a business, don’t forget to get the VAT back on the things you send out. To do this, make sure to keep all bills, receipts, and invoices.
Use a door to door service
When sending a package, you have to pay for more than just the postage. The gas it takes to get your item to the post office or depot and the time you have to take out of your day are also unnecessary costs. A service that takes you from door to door will save you time and money.
Beware of excess charges
When you get a quote from a courier, make sure that the price you are given is the final price you pay. Make sure that VAT and compensation cover are included in the total so that you don’t get a nasty surprise when you pay.
Book in advance to use economy services
If your package doesn’t need to be sent right away, try to use the courier’s economy service instead of the express service, which is often much cheaper.
